The Division of Integrative Systems and Design (ISD) strives to study and promote leadership in the design and creation of innovative products and systems. We support cross-disciplinary research projects. The specific research areas of interest include design theory, digital technology and society, smart society, robotics and AI, IoT for integrative system, modelling, simulation and verification technology for integrative systems design as well as design for cross disciplinary research.
Applicants should have a PhD degree in engineering, design or a closely related field. Successful candidates are expected to develop strong, independent and innovative programs of externally sponsored research; contribute to both undergraduate and graduate teaching across the Division, as well as participate in services of the Division, the Academy of Interdisciplinary Studies and the University.
About ISD in HKUST
The Division aspires to nurture a new generation of innovators who can work across multiple disciplines and create disruptive innovations. The vision of ISD is to 1) provide state-of-the-art project-based experiential learning in design education and 2) be a cradle for nurturing innovators and researchers with a design and system thinking mindset as well as an entrepreneurial spirit. The Division provides comprehensive teaching and research programs in integrated design and systems thinking. The academic degrees offered by ISD are a BSc in Innovation, Design and Technology, a MSc in Technology Leadership & Entrepreneurship, a MPhil degree in Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship and a PhD and MPhil programs in Integrative Systems and Design. We are expanding rapidly and looking to broaden into disciplines such as sports, marine technology and medical technology.

Salary is highly competitive and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits and housing benefits. Appointment for Professor will be on substantive basis. Initial appointment for Assistant Professor/Associate Professor will normally be on a 3-year contract, renewable subject to mutual agreement. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract. Strong candidates applying for an Associate Professor position may also be considered for appointment on substantive terms.
