Hiring Range

The University of California, Merced is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range for this position is Step 1: $32.27/hr - Step 17: $44.30/hr. The hourly range the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is Step 1: $32.27/hr.

Job Closing Date

About the Job

The AFI Financial Analyst would support the finance function of Auxiliary Enterprises and Fiscal Innovation Department. The Financial Analyst is responsible for financial support of the AFI portfolio. This includes analytical support by providing budgetary information and financial reports, and monitoring account activity and financial ledgers. Responsible for conducting financial reconciliations and analyzing reports from various systems. The Financial Analyst will also serve as an administrative resource to the AFI team by supporting vendor relations/vendor management and assisting in procurement processes, including managing purchase orders and invoicing. Other areas of responsibility include interfacing with Human Resources and Payroll for AFI as needed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Budgets, Finance & Analytical Support
  • Applies professional concepts to perform basic financial analysis to understand past performance and determine present and future performance and resource allocations.
  • Under general supervision, provides analytical support for developing budget & finance reports, forecasting, and financial analysis for the unit.
  • Implements departmental budget allocations and maintains the departmental chart of accounts and related business processes. Follow sound accounting and financial management principles and adhere to all applicable UC Policies and Procedures.
  • Gathers and analyzes financial data; prepares and summarizes information and recommendations.
  • Ensures that the appropriate internal controls are addressed, maintained, and strengthened to protect University resources. Assist in collecting and maintaining statistics and data for planning and reporting purposes.
  • Prepares basic financial and resource reports and analysis for internal department constituents. Track operating income & expense accounts and conduct financial reconciliations. Review and monitor reports from the Inventory management system and assist with the preparation of the Dining Financial Analysis report.
  • Assist in refining processes to enhance data collection, efficiency, internal controls, procedures, and accountability.
  • Work independently and as part of a team; prioritize work and manage a variety of projects simultaneously with accuracy and attention to detail; take on unfamiliar projects/assignments and respond flexibly to requests for assistance amid conflicting demands; work with ambiguity when clear guidelines are not available; and be service-oriented.
Administrative Support
  • Assist with departmental processing of procurement and personnel data as needed, including travel reimbursements, procurement card reconciliations, and higher approval requests.
  • Support in vendor relations/vendor management to ensure accurate setup of accounts.
  • Support in procurement processes, including managing purchase orders and invoicing.
  • Ensure that proper purchasing procedures are followed for procurement activities within Dining Services.
  • Participate and provide training to Dining teams to ensure accurate procurement.

Qualifications

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree From an accredited university in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Management, Economics, or a related field.

AND

  • Bachelor's degree and one year of directly related, progressively responsible experience, or five years of equivalent experience/training.

CRITICAL KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS

  • Working knowledge of finance policies, practices, and systems.
  • Ability to gather reasonably retrievable information to organize and perform basic financial analysis assignments.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively present information verbally and in writing clearly and concisely.
  • Demonstrated ability using spreadsheet and database software for moderately complex financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills at all levels within the unit; excellent service orientation and critical thinking skills; and attention to detail. Demonstrated ability using organizational skills to multitask in a high-volume environment.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Ability to function as a member of a team.
  • Intermediate knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources. (Preferred)
