Position Details
The Department of Veterinary Science (Faculty of Science and Environmental Studies), Lakehead University, Thunder Bay Campus, invites applications for a tenure-track or tenured appointment with expertise in Food Animal Veterinary Practice and Herd Health, with an anticipated start date of Fall 2026 or January 1 2027.
Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Qualifications
Applicants must have a veterinary degree (DVM or equivalent) and experience in food animal veterinary practice. In addition, applicants will have a post-graduate degree, at the doctoral level (PhD, DVSc or equivalent) in health management, epidemiology, or a related field. Previous experience teaching in a DVM program is considered an asset. Eligibility for licensure in Ontario (College of Veterinarians of Ontario) is preferred.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will contribute to lectures and laboratories for health management and clinical medicine in the CDVMP. A broad range of food animal practice experience is an asset. Candidates with demonstrated experience teaching DVM students, ideally in both didactic and clinical teaching are desired. The successful candidate will have demonstrated strong communications and collaboration skills and will use these skills to develop networks across broad communities of experts, effectively collaborating with faculty from multiple disciplines.
The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of the accredited veterinary curriculum within the CDVMP at Lakehead University’s Thunder Bay campus, working collaboratively within a team-taught curriculum delivery model alongside OVC faculty colleagues.
The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing an independent, externally funded research program consistent with their disciplinary expertise and with the Department’s developing research profile. Expectations include the supervision and training of graduate students and the pursuit of external funding to support these activities. Collaborative research with faculty in cognate units at Lakehead University and with partners at the University of Guelph is encouraged.
