Offer Description
Assessment of Seismic Risk Induced by Mantle Wedge Seismicity in the Lesser Antilles. The postdoctoral fellow will be responsible for detecting mantle wedge seismicity beneath the Lesser Antilles and then assessing the resulting seismic risk for Guadeloupe and Martinique.
- Creation of a seismicity catalog for the mantle corner in the Lesser Antilles by applying the protocol of Halpaap et al. (2021), based on reflected and converted seismic waves in the various subduction zones
- Use of this catalog in conjunction with the seismotectonic model by Foix et al. to assess the seismic hazard induced by this seismicity and define its characteristics in order to isolate it within the seismic hazard calculation workflow
- Classification of general seismicity based on the geometry of subduction, using the locations of earthquakes recorded exclusively by land-based seismometers
- Determining whether the seismicity at the mantle wedge is of sufficient magnitude to warrant the development of a specific ground motion prediction model
The candidate will work at ISTerre research laboratory, a joint research unit (UMR) with approximately 310 people, and is part of the Observatory of Universe Sciences (OSU) at the University of Grenoble Alpes (UGA), which is responsible for numerous national observation services. The candidate will join ISTerre's Geophysics of Seismic and Gravitational Risks team, which consists of about 30 researchers, faculty members, postdocs, doctoral students, and engineers. This position is part of the ATLAS project (reassessment of seismic hazard in the Antilles), supported by the Ministry of Ecological Transition through 2027.
