Full-time Teaching Assistant (Psychology)

Job Description

Teaching assistants are expected to conduct tutorials and provide the necessary support for courses that operate on the lecture-tutorial format.

Required Qualifications and Experience

At least an Honours with Distinction or Second Upper Honours (or equivalent) degree in Psychology by the time of appointment. Some teaching experience will be an advantage but not necessary.

Nature of Job

  • facilitating discussion groups
  • attending lectures as necessary
  • marking assignments and exams
  • designing assessments as necessary
  • providing student consultations
  • supporting class management and administration
  • attending teaching enhancement classes/seminars

Preference will be given to those who are comfortable with teaching a few of these courses: Introduction to Psychology, Research and Statistical Methods I and II, Mental Health and Distress, Biological Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Social Psychology, Psychometrics and Psychological Testing, History & Systems of Psychology, Historical Controversies in Psychology, Data Science for Psychology: Methods and Applications, Networks in Psychology.

  2. Statement of teaching philosophy and impact narratives, with evidence of student learning and educational leadership (i.e., official student feedback documents, if applicable). The statement should not exceed 3,000 words. Full official student feedback documents, where applicable, should be included in the appendix.
  3. Copies of educational certificates and transcripts
  4. A list of courses you are able and willing to teach (the full list of courses is available on the department website)
  5. Two reference letters to be submitted directly by the letter writers to the following email: Dr Cha Yeow Siah, psycys@nus.edu.sg. Letter writers should be able to comment on your suitability for the job. Reference letters are not required for fresh NUS graduates (within one year of graduation).
