Offer Description
The Faculty of Medicine of the Goethe University Frankfurt am Main, Cooperative Brain Imaging Center (CoBIC), invites applications for the following position as civil servant or public employee starting as soon as possible:
Professor (W3) of Computational Neuroscience and Neurodevelopment gefördert durch die Dr. Rolf M. Schwiete Stiftung
Professorship Profile
This professorship is being established within the framework of the Cooperative Brain Imaging Center (CoBIC), a joint initiative founded in 2025 by Goethe University in collaboration with the Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics and the Ernst Strüngmann Institute for Neuroscience. As a unique scientific partnership in the field of human neuroscience, the CoBIC is poised to generate new momentum in the discipline. The center offers a dynamic, research-intensive environment with diverse clinical and scientific opportunities, as well as a collegial and highly motivated interdisciplinary team. The professorship is intended to strengthen the CoBIC’s methodological expertise, particularly in the area of translational neuroimaging, with the aim of advancing precision medicine in the context of neuromental disorders. The research focus of the professorship will center on neurodevelopmental conditions, to be investigated in an interdisciplinary manner and in close collaboration with the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Psychosomatics and Psychotherapy at University Hospital Frankfurt and the Autism Therapy Center Frankfurt. The professorship will strengthen the research focus on neuroscience within the 'Science for Health' profile area at Goethe University in the study of psychiatric disorders and will thus become an integral part of the Interdisciplinary Center for Neuroscience Frankfurt (IZNF) and the Rhine-Main Neuroscience Network (rmn²). Both networks offer valuable resources and support for neuroscience in the Rhine-Main metropolitan region. The IZNF provides an interdisciplinary perspective and dedicated research groups, while rmn² promotes broader international visibility and collaboration. Both networks support the regional neuroscience community and provide access to extensive research opportunities in various areas of neuroscience. The professorship is expected to actively participate in this neuroscience community and contribute to its further development.
Your Profile
We are seeking a candidate with a distinguished scientific track record in the neurobiology of neurodevelopmental disorders, with a particular focus on autism and ADHD, as well as extensive expertise in structural MRI, including the development of neuroimaging biomarkers. Applicants should demonstrate outstanding publication achievements in translational and interdisciplinary neuroimaging, for instance in the fields of imaging genetics and imaging transcriptomics. In addition, we expect a demonstrated record of leading involvement in national and international research projects – for example through participation in collaborative research programs and EU consortia – in order to represent the CoBIC effectively at the national and international level. You should hold a completed university degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, Bioinformatics, or a closely related field, alongside a relevant doctoral degree in one of these disciplines. Evidence of post-doctoral scientific qualification is required, either in the form of a Habilitation or equivalent scientific achievements, including an international publication record and successful acquisition of third-party funding from distinguished public funding bodies such as the DFG or the European Union. A high level of academic commitment and a constructive willingness to engage in close, interdisciplinary collaboration in both research and teaching are expected. We further expect teaching experience at the university level and excellent didactic competence, ideally demonstrated through strong teaching evaluations. Readiness to contribute to curriculum development within the Faculty of Medicine and to participate in academic self-governance is likewise required.
Requirements for Appointment
The employment requirements as defined in § 68 of HessHG apply. Among other things, this includes proof of aptitude for academic work (e.g., a doctorate), additional academic achievements (e.g., a habilitation or equivalent), and the subject-specific requirements listed under "Your profile" that are necessary for fulfilling the duties of the professorship.
