Graduate Research Assistant for Prison Education (Beg Fall 2026)

Job Summary

The responsibilites for this position include the following:

  • Literature Reviews, Annotated Bibliographies, etc. 35%
  • Data Collection, Management, and Analysis 35%
  • General Assistance to Dr. Parsons 30%

Required Qualifications

To be considered for a graduate assistantship at the University of West Georgia (UWG), students must meet the following criteria:

  • Be fully admitted to a graduate degree program at UWG. Please note: Students admitted provisionally are not eligible for assistantship positions.
  • Bachelor's Degree in a social science, including economics
  • Be enrolled full-time in a UWG graduate program during the assistantship period.
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 in all previous and current graduate coursework and remain in good academic standing.
  • Meet eligibility requirements for employment in the United States.

In addition, to be considered for the Prison Education Research Assistantship, students must have

  • successfully passed (B or higher) a social science methodology course
  • successfully passed (B or higher) a social science or math statistics course
  • experience with evaluating previous literature, managing data, data collection, and data analysis
  • clean driver's license
  • reliable transportation or live on campus/within walking distance to campus

Preferred Qualifications

  • Enrolled in the Master of Public Administration or Master of Business Administration
  • Licensed driver

Proposed Salary

  • A monthly stipend of $1000.00 per month
  • A tuition waiver, reducing your graduate tuition to $25 per semester plus mandatory fees as long as you are employed in your assistantship.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Requires lifting and carrying materials and supplies, including books.
  • Ability to drive
  • Some traveling required. In the case it is needed for this position to drive, a university vehicle will be provided or mileage reimbursed.
