Graduate Research Assistant for the Department of Special Education (Beg Fall 2026)

Job Summary

This position would work for the Department of Special Education, with part of the position dedicated to supporting research in the ABA program. The research in the ABA program is funded by Foundations for materials; however, the foundation grants do not include graduate assistantship funding.

  • 30% Research Project Operations and Logistics
    + Assist with operations and logistics of the 3 ABA program research projects, which also include community initiatives (e.g., IGNITE, Inclusive Den, Sibling workshops), including organization of student assistants, activity and event logistics, to ensure smooth implementation and effective communication among students.
  • 30% Research Project Support
    + Assist faculty in Special Education-related research, including data collection, analysis, organization, and supporting grant writing, preparation of manuscripts, and data dissemination (presentations, posters, and reports).
  • 20% Marketing and Outreach
    + Develop marketing materials (flyers, newsletters, social media content) to promote SPED department initiatives and student success and increase department visibility.
    + Assist in creating and updating website content and digital marketing materials for recruitment and public visibility.
    + Capture highlights from student, faculty, and community projects to enhance the program’s statewide presence.
  • 20% Event and Project Coordination
    + Support the planning and implementation of ABA program and SPED department events and outreach projects.
    + Coordinate logistics, communications, and materials for special initiatives, including workshops, training sessions, and community partnerships.
    + Contribute to the department's overall visibility and engagement by maintaining consistent follow-up and professional communication.

Required Qualifications

To be considered for a graduate assistantship at the University of West Georgia (UWG), students must meet the following criteria:

  • Be fully admitted to a graduate degree program at UWG. Please note: Students admitted provisionally are not eligible for assistantship positions.
  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Be enrolled full-time in a UWG graduate program during the assistantship period.
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 in all previous and current graduate coursework and remain in good academic standing.
  • Meet eligibility requirements for employment in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Enrolled in a College of Education Graduate Program (or related field)
  • Proficient in technology applications, such as Excel, Canva, Word

Proposed Salary

  • A monthly stipend of $1000.00 per month
  • A tuition waiver, reducing your graduate tuition to $25 per semester plus mandatory fees as long as you are employed in your assistantship.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • This position is primarily in-person.
  • Responsibilities may include occasional lifting of materials for event and exhibit setup, as well as active engagement with young children during research activities.
