Summary: The Teaching Assistant (TA) supports the instructional mission of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics by assisting faculty in the delivery of undergraduate or graduate courses. TAs play a vital role in fostering student learning and engagement through instructional support, grading, tutoring, office hours, in-class assistance, material preparation, and other tasks, depending on the particular course needs.
Essential Functions:
- Assist with grading of assignments, quizzes, exams, and other coursework in a fair and timely manner.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance and attendance as requested.
- Provide feedback to the instructor regarding student progress or difficulties.
- Adhere to academic integrity policies and uphold the department’s standards of professionalism and confidentiality.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: Part-time. 3 hours per week.
Salary Range: $19.50 per hour.
Required Education and Experience:
- Enrollment in a graduate program at AU (preferably in Mathematics, Statistics, or Data Science).
- Strong academic performance and knowledge in Calculus.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Comfortability with using or learning to use educational software to grade.
- Completion of MATH-221 (Calculus I) or an equivalent course and MATH-222 (Calculus II) or an equivalent course, with grades of B or higher is required. Preference is given to applicants with additional completed mathematical coursework with grades of B or higher and/or students who received grades of A or higher in these courses.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
- Prior teaching or tutoring experience is preferred but not required.

- Duties are remote. Access to reliable internet and a reliable computer or tablet to complete duties is required.
