The successful candidate will have a pivotal role in providing high quality clinical care to patients and contribute to the academic mission of the Department of Surgery.

Job Duties:

The successful candidate is expected to engage in and develop an academic clinical practice at the MUHC, and to participate actively in all clinical activities of trauma surgery, trauma team leader, acute care surgery, and critical care medicine.

The candidate is also expected to be actively involved in all aspects of McGill’s academic mission (i.e., research, teaching, supervision of graduate students and residents, and also involvement in academic and administrative committees).

McGill faculty members are expected to contribute to service activities within their units, the University, and the wider scholarly community. A demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion is also expected.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Hold an MD and have completed General Surgical training with a Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification or equivalent;
  • Have completed a fellowship in trauma and critical care; critical care training must be recognized by the Royal College of Surgeons;
  • Be an academic surgeon licensed or eligible for licensure in the province of Quebec;
  • Have additional graduate training in the form of an MSc, PhD, or a second year of clinical fellowship (required for all surgical hires);
  • A background in epidemiological oriented clinical research or simulation based educational programs would be an asset;
  • Be committed to clinical excellence, research, and education;
  • Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire these language skills at the level needed to practice medicine in Quebec.
