Head of the Department of Cultural and Creative Arts

Faculty of Humanities

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced scholar to lead the Department of Cultural and Creative Arts (CCA). The Head of Department will assume the overall responsibility for academic leadership and strategic direction to the Department in line with the strategic developments of the Faculty of Humanities and the strategic plan (2025-2031) of the University. He/She will report to the Dean of Faculty of Humanities.

Roles and Responsibilities

The appointee will provide leadership to develop and implement innovative programmes and courses in cultural and creative arts or cognate fields; take the lead in securing competitive external funding and research opportunities; enhance the Department’s collaboration with academic and creative industry partners and the arts communities locally and overseas; manage, mentor and evaluate staff performance; increase the visibility and positive reputation of CCA's achievements and talents; participate in university governance and contribute to the wider academic community locally, regionally (e.g. the Greater Bay Area) and internationally.

The appointee will contribute to his/her affiliated department’s teaching, research, project supervision, knowledge transfer projects/activities, programme and curriculum development, and programme and course management at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Supervision of field work and of teaching practicum may also be required.

Requirements

Applicants should have a doctoral degree and prior degrees in fields relevant to one or more of the areas of the Department. They should be an active researcher with track record of high-impact publications as well as a growing publication record and be able to continue conducting research that attracts competitive external funding and leads to publication in leading international journals. Applicants should have teaching experience and a commitment to excellence in teaching (Qualified Teacher Status is a plus); should be fluent in English with, ideally, knowledge of Cantonese and/or Putonghua and the educational context of Hong Kong and/or China. Candidates with international experience would also be highly valued.

Remuneration

The successful applicant will be offered appointment at an academic rank (_viz.,_ Chair Professor / Professor / Associate Professor), commensurate with qualifications and experience, and hold the Headship appointment on a concurrent basis for an initial period of up to 3 years with the possibility of renewal for a second term. Remuneration package will be highly competitive and negotiable, and attractive fringe benefits including housing benefits where appropriate, will be provided.
