Health Services Director
About the Job
The Health Services Director provides strategic leadership for a comprehensive health and wellness department within the Division of Student Life at the University of Minnesota Duluth. This role oversees departmental operations while also delivering medical care that supports students’ health, well-being, and academic success. In addition to clinical responsibilities, the Director leads departmental administration, supervises professional staff, and directs fiscal management and long-term strategic planning to ensure high-quality, student-focused services.
Location and Work environment: This position is located in Duluth, Minnesota and is an in-person role.
Work Schedule: This position is a Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week, in-person position. Some evening and weekend work may be required.
Primary Responsibilities:
Medical Care- 60%
- Provide direct patient care
Departmental Administration- 25%
- Provide leadership and strategic direction for the Health Services department
- Work collaboratively with the Medical Director and Laboratory Director to develop, implement, and monitor policy and procedures necessary for medical services
- This includes but is not limited to oversight of surgical and anesthesia services, infection control programming and clinical lab/diagnostic imaging services
- Medical services are those services delivered by the physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, registered nurses, medical assistants, dietician, medical and x-ray technologists
- Oversee public health information to be provided for the campus at large
- Serve on the departmental management team to make department wide decisions around the administration of services, departmental policy, strategic direction and other needs as necessary
- Create and administer assessment of programs and services in alignment with the departmental, divisional and institutional strategic plan
- Assure educational and licensure requirements and procedural privileging requests of medical services personnel on an annual basis
- Participate in annual budget planning and Student Service Fee budget process
- Lead and participate in long-range fiscal planning for Health Services
- Represent Health Services on campus and community committees and external collaborations
Staff Supervision- 10%
- Supervise professional staff to include job performance reviews, performance coaching, professional development, and day-to-day management
- Participate in hiring, performance management and termination Health Services personnel
- Lead and attend staff meetings, management group meetings, retreats, and appropriate services
Planning and Development- 5%
- Monitor a peer review quality improvement program, including medical record audits, utilization reviews, and other appropriate surveys and programs
- Develop and/or approve appropriate nursing protocols for independent nursing functions
- Collaborate with the University of Minnesota Health System, including aligning messaging, practices and policies within the greater university as appropriate
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Primary healthcare provider
- Board certification
- Current license without restrictions to practice in Minnesota
- Minimum of five years of clinical experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certified Nurse Practitioner or Doctor of Medicine
- Specialties in family medicine, internal medicine or pediatrics
- Experience with administrative leadership within a clinical setting
- Experience with staff supervision, personnel management, and performance management
- Experience in public health, especially pertaining to emerging infectious diseases
