Job Description Summary
The main roles of this position are to provide technical histology to the Penn Vet Diagnostic Laboratory (PVDL) and the Comparative Pathology Core (CPC). Expert technical support is required in the histology laboratory for the PVDL and CPC (a shared resource within the Abramson Cancer Center), which generates materials for busy biopsy and autopsy services and research. In this role, the employee will work closely with other histology technicians, faculty pathologists, researchers, staff, and resident trainees and main duties include: tissue trimming and embedding; sectioning/microtoming of processed; histochemical staining; instrument maintenance (tissue processor, autostainer, cover-slipper); and distribution and filing of cases, slides, and blocks. The opportunities to trim fixed tissues and aid in optimizing novel antibodies for immunohistochemistry are also potentially available to the right candidate. The employee will also be integral in maintaining quality control/quality assessment protocols and standard operating procedures for CPC and PVDL activities.

The PennVet Laboratory of Pathology and Toxicology seeks to hire an experienced histology technician to work at the Philadelphia campus. The main roles of this position are to provide technical histology to the Penn Vet Diagnostic Laboratory (PVDL) and the Comparative Pathology Core (CPC). Expert technical support is required in the histology laboratory which generates materials for busy biopsy and autopsy services and research. In this role, the employee will work closely with other histology technicians, faculty pathologists, researchers, staff, and resident trainees.
Job responsibilities will include:
- Tissue trimming and embedding
- Sectioning/microtoming of processed and frozen tissues
- Histochemical staining
- Immunohistochemical staining (auto-immunostaining instrument) as well as infrequent manual staining
- Instrument maintenance (tissue processor, autostainer, cover-slipper)
- Distribution and filing of cases, slides, and blocks.
- The opportunities to trim fixed tissues and aid in optimizing novel antibodies for immunohistochemistry are also potentially available to the right candidate.

Qualifications
An Associate of Science and 3 to 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Experience with tissue preparation and processing is required. Please submit a cover letter along with your resume.
