Honors College Academic Counselor I
Job Summary
The Honors College Special Programs Academic Counselor I supports student success and development within the Honors College through a comprehensive approach that integrates student mentoring, student engagement, and specialized program coordination. This role advises and mentors students while also coordinating programmatic activities including recruitment, selection, experiential learning preparation, and ongoing student support for Honors College Special Programs.
Core Responsibilities
- Advises, guides, and mentors Honors College students in achievement of academic, personal, and professional goals.
- Supports students in preparing applications for experiential learning opportunities including internships, research, study abroad, and service learning.
- Coordinates and supports recruitment, selection, and onboarding processes for Honors College Special Programs.
- Plans, organizes, and executes programming and events that support student engagement, leadership development, and academic success.
- Provides individualized support to program participants, including guidance on scholarships, financial aid coordination, and program requirements.
- Maintains student records, documentation, and tracking systems to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely reporting.
- Conducts student audits and supports administrative processes related to academic standing and program participation.
- Develops and maintains program materials, communications, and procedural documentation to ensure consistency and quality.
- Collaborates with Honors College leadership and campus partners to support program priorities and student success initiatives.
- Participates in Honors College committees and represents the unit in university events and initiatives.
- Engages in orientation, outreach, and community-building activities, including evening and weekend programming as needed.
- Maintains regular communication with students and stakeholders through multiple platforms.
- Stays informed on best practices in student development, advising, and honors education.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
- One (1) year of related work experience.
- This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Banner and Inspire or other student information systems, Salesforce or comparable CRM.
- Experience with scholarship and admissions application systems.
- Willingness to become certified to drive a rental van with students.
- Ability to independently secure rental and hotel reservations (per diem provided).
