Horticultural Participation Coordinator (Fixed Term)
We are looking for an enthusiastic and organised Horticultural Participation Coordinator to join Cambridge University Botanic Garden. This is a new, four-year fixed-term position working across both our Horticulture and Learning teams to bring people and horticulture together. Reporting to the Head of Learning, you will coordinate and develop the Garden's horticultural volunteer programme, deliver inclusive community participation and Social and Therapeutic Horticulture activities, and help ensure our living collection and public spaces continue to thrive.
You will coordinate the recruitment, induction, training and day-to-day support of our horticultural volunteers, working alongside horticultural staff on seasonal tasks and projects across the living collections. You will plan and deliver horticultural participation and wellbeing activities as part of the Garden's Communities Programme, which works in partnership with around 70 charities and community organisations to provide supportive, garden-based experiences for a diverse range of participants. You will also have operational responsibility for the Schools' Garden, maintaining and developing it as a safe, welcoming and high-quality resource for the schoolchildren, volunteers and community groups who take part each year.
We're looking for someone with strong practical horticultural skills and a recognised horticultural qualification, together with excellent interpersonal and communication skills and experience of coordinating, training or supporting volunteers or community groups. Empathy and the ability to support people with varying needs are essential, particularly in delivering Social and Therapeutic Horticulture. Training in Social and Therapeutic Horticulture, or a teaching or training qualification, would be an advantage.
This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to one of the UK's leading botanic gardens, helping people of all backgrounds develop skills, confidence and wellbeing through horticulture while supporting the Garden's world-class collections and public engagement programmes.
