HVAC Maintenance Mechanic
Job Description
Raritan Valley Community College currently has an anticipated opening for a HVAC Maintenance Mechanic in the Facilities & Grounds department. Under the direct supervision of the Buildings and Grounds Manager, the HVAC Maintenance Mechanic performs varies maintenance work. Overall general maintenance skills are required. The role will be assigned to perform repairs or replacement of parts on mechanical equipment in areas of heating, plumbing, air conditioning and ventilation.
Essential Duties:
- Repair and installation of HVAC facilities, chilled water, hot water, and air distribution systems.
- Repair and replace piping systems (hot water, chilled water, compressed air).
- Repair and replace HVAC piping, valves, controls, and ductwork.
- Assembles, installs, repairs fittings and fixtures of heating water chilled water and refrigeration equipment as needed.
- Order material as needed.
- Trouble shooting skills in hot water heaters and heat exchangers.
- maintenance of heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment.
- Trouble shoots all HVAC systems and controls.
- Repair, & trouble shoot pumps, motors and drives.
- Operate commercial boilers and chillers at central plant.
- Removal of snow and operation of snow removal equipment.
- Weekends, overtime hours end emergency work will be required.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Minimum of three (3) years' experience.
- Prior experience or knowledge of repair, replacement or trouble shooting related to HVAC trade.
- New Jersey Black Seal Low Pressure Boiler License or ability to obtain one within 6 months is mandatory.
- Valid driver's license.
- Requires formal training and experience in mechanical or plumbing.
- Experience in use of copper tubing, fittings and threaded pipe.
- Must be familiar with all types of tools, gauges and meters necessary to perform the duties.
- Excellent customer service skills and attention to detail are required.
- Ability to effectively read, speak and write English to communicate effectively with the college community and understand standard safety protocols.
- Knowledge of plumbing codes a plus.

Physical Demands:
- Requires sitting, standing, bending, walking, kneeling and climbing.
- Lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds for a distance of 50 feet.
- Requires handling equipment weighing up to 50 pounds while pushing, pulling, lifting, twisting, and reaching while lifting.
