(Hybrid) Assistant Director - Community, Connections and Culture
About the Opportunity
This position is a leadership role that will support the director for Connections and Communities with day-to-day operations and strategic focus on creating an educationally immersive experience and safe space to celebrate, honor, and engage students. Through intentional, broad-based programming, this position will assist in fostering a sense of belonging for a diverse student body, helping every student build connections and participate fully in campus community life.
This position will serve on campus-wide committees delegated by the director and serve when the director is unavailable.
What You'll Do:
Programming and Planning
- Assist with creating intentional and specialized opportunities to preserve, enhance, explore and celebrate the cultures and traditions of the University's unique student populations through educational programs, lectures, exhibits and social activities.
- Assist in providing an affirming space that engages students, faculty, staff, and alumni creating a community of support by promoting.
- Develop specialized programming and activities that augment classroom learning and have cultural relevancy for students of marginalized populations; with an emphasis on our LGBTQ+ student community.
- Assist in developing strategies and support services to facilitate the transition, recruitment, retention, persistence, and graduation rates of student of students of marginalized populations.
- Provide student leadership opportunities that empower participants to strengthen community, enrich their academic experiences, and take active roles in campus engagement.
- Assist in leading the Student Life components of Living-Learning Community (LLC) programming, aligning residential engagement activities with Student Life priorities and WVU's student success goals.
- Collaborate with faculty, Residence Life staff, and campus partners to assist in designing co-curricular experiences that enhance LLC identity, promote academic and social integration, and support holistic student development.
- Attends professional conferences and professional development training in order to stay current with the latest developments and trends in student programming.
Relationship and Network Building
- Connect students to alumni and community partners for purposes of mentorship and professional development
- Develops and maintains strong relationships with campus units to coordinate a community-wide approach to support the diverse needs of WVU's student populations.
- Develop strategic coalitions with campus partners to ensure that the office serves the needs of LGBTQ+ students, faculty, staff, allies and the broader WVU.
Assessment and Continuous Improvement
- Utilize qualitative and quantitative data to assess service utilization, student outcomes, and program effectiveness, driving continuous improvement.
- Assist in preparing comprehensive reports and actionable recommendations to support planning, resource allocation, and institutional decision-making.
- Stay informed of national trends and best practices to guide program development and enhance student engagement.
Qualifications
- Master's Degree required
- A minimum of three (3) years of related experience
- Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered
- All qualifications must be met by the time of employment
