Immunogenetics Technologist Trainee (Pathology)

The Pathology Department is seeking an Immunogenetics Technologist Trainee who works under the direct supervision of a laboratory manager and/or bench supervisor. The trainee will develop skills in one or more areas in the laboratory and receive the necessary training to advance to a technologist role.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop laboratory skills in the following areas: lymphocyte isolation and purification, Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) molecular typing, DNA technologies including RSSO, RT-PCR, NGS, and TGS, flow cytometry crossmatch, Luminex-based assays, deceased donor on-call training.
- Genotype families.
- Prepare reagents accurately.
- Maintain quality control of reagents and equipment.
- Operate and troubleshoot liquid handling robotics, flow cytometers, Luminex instruments, liquid nitrogen freezers.
- Perform computer data entry.
- Tabulate, analyze, and report issues.
- Perform meticulous record keeping.
- Learn to troubleshoot problems when they arise during technical procedures.
- Learn to teach techniques and underlying principles.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Biological Science, Medical Technology, or related field.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
- Related post-undergraduate work experience.
