- Teach 30 semester hours per academic year. Opportunities may
exist to teach summer classes.
- Participate in ARC/STSA accreditation activities and abide by
accreditation guidelines and standards.
- Participate in discipline-related activities such as program
evaluation, curriculum design, and outcomes assessment and
evaluation.
- Provide support to the program and clinical coordinator as
needed.
- Faculty members are expected to serve on departmental, campus,
and/or college committees, hold office hours, advise students,
participate in course and program assessment, and maintain an
active personal program of professional development and continuous
learning.
Required Qualifications:
- Associate degree in Surgical Technology from an accredited
institution.
- Must hold the credential of certified surgical technologist
from a national credentialing organization that is accredited by
the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA) specifically
National Board on Surgical Assisting and Surgical Assistants
(NBSTSA), or Certified Surgical Technologist or joint Certified
Surgical Technologist/Certified First Assistant.
- Minimum of three (3) years of current experience in the
operating room in a scrub role or three (3) years of current
experience as an instructor of surgical technology or a combination
of both within the past five (5) years.
- Demonstrated proficiency in instructional methodology,
curriculum design, and program planning.
- Demonstrated excellence in classroom instruction using a
variety of teaching methods.
- Demonstrated commitment to inclusive and equitable teaching
practices and support of a diverse student population.
- Experience integrating technology into course delivery
including the use of a Learning Management System.
- Applicants must be able to travel within the DC, Maryland, and
Virginia area to visit clinical sites affiliated with the
program.
- Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the
United States and not require employer visa sponsorship
.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience utilizing high-impact teaching pedagogies to foster
student engagement and active learning.
- Experience supporting students through extracurricular
activities or community outreach.
- Knowledge of Clinical Placement Processes
- Evidence of commitment to professional development and
scholarly activities.
- Experience supporting students to overcome barriers to academic
success.
Hiring Range: $64,510 - $98,220
