EMPLOYMENT TERMS
9-month position, Instructor – Non-tenure track position OR Assistant Professor – Tenure track position
PRIMARY DUTY
This nursing faculty member will work directly with the Director of Nursing and other nursing colleagues to teach courses in the traditional, on-ground Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program. The position requires the ability to deliver classroom and clinical instruction effectively, actively engaging students, ensuring academic rigor, and promoting the development of clinical competency and professional nursing practice. Specific teaching assignments, including lecture, laboratory, and clinical practicum courses, will be determined based on the candidate's expertise and education. This faculty member is expected to maintain a regular on-campus presence.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Teach on-ground nursing courses as assigned (24-26 credit hours), including didactic lecture, skills laboratory, and clinical practicum courses.
- Develop and revise course syllabi, lesson plans, and associated materials for effective in-person, online, and clinical delivery.
- Utilize and manage classroom technologies, simulation equipment, clinical learning tools, and the course management system to support student learning; faculty involved in clinical simulation will maintain documented ongoing professional development in simulation.
- Ensure continuous improvement of instruction through the identification and implementation of best practices, including ongoing systematic development, implementation, and evaluation of the total program in relation to its stated philosophy, mission, and graduate competencies.
- Advise and provide academic guidance to students in the nursing programs.
- Model effective oral and written communication that engages students, provides clarity, and improves student learning.
- Attend regular meetings with the program director, faculty, and staff; participate in the development of program and institutional policies and decision-making.
- Ensure the content of course materials corresponds with the course and program learning outcomes.
- Assist the program leadership in program curriculum revisions and evaluation to ensure compliance with the Missouri Nursing Practice Act and Minimum Standards, the Missouri Department of Higher Education, the Higher Learning Commission, and applicable accrediting agencies.
- Develop effective relationships with faculty, students, and partner agencies.
- Ensure that student records are gathered and maintained as required and in a manner that ensures confidentiality and FERPA compliance.
- Assist in the identification and the recommendation of adjunct faculty.
- Engage in scholarly activity in a manner consistent with expectations described in faculty handbook.
- Engage in service activities in a manner consistent with expectations described in the faculty handbook.
- Assist with vaccine administration, screenings, medical testing, contact tracing, and other forms of preventative care and community health initiatives provided through the university to the campus and the surrounding community.
- Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.
- Summer program and student support activities are expected, including regularly responding to student communication. Significant program coordination and/or accreditation work in summer, such as clinical placement coordination, accreditation documentation, or faculty scheduling, may result in additional compensation through instructional load reassignment, based on a written agreement between administration and the faculty member that specifies responsibilities and scope.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Education: Instructor – MS in Nursing; Assistant Professor – Doctorate in Nursing or related field
Certification/License: Unencumbered Missouri Nursing license
Experience: At least one year of experience in an academic nursing environment as an instructor teaching clinical or lab courses in a traditional nursing program; at least two years of experience as a practicing RN
Skills: Proficient in classroom and clinical instructional strategies; exceptional written and verbal communication; exceptional time management and organizational skills
