Job Description:
The IT Project Coordinator will support the planning, coordination, and execution of technology projects within the Syracuse University ITS Enterprise Application Services (EAS) team. Working under the direction of EAS leadership, this role will assist with project documentation, schedule tracking, stakeholder communication, and status reporting across a portfolio of small to medium-sized IT initiatives. Projects may include software upgrades, new module implementations, and operational process improvements. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, and eager to develop project management skills in a higher education IT environment. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career professional looking to grow into a full project management role.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree in Information Technology, Business, Communications, or a related field required.
- No prior professional experience required; relevant internship, coursework, or academic project experience in project coordination, technology, or operations is preferred.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Familiarity with project management concepts and methodologies (coursework or certification such as CAPM, Google PM Certificate, or similar a plus)
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detailClear written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams); experience with project tracking tools (Smartsheet, Asana, Planner) a plus
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines
- Curiosity about enterprise technology systems and higher education IT
- Working knowledge of AI-powered tools and their potential to streamline and improve business processes. Ability to identify opportunities where AI solutions can reduce manual effort and support data-driven decision-making. Familiarity with AI assistants (such as Anthropics Claude, Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar tools) and a willingness to apply them in functional analysis and documentation activities.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain project documentation including charters, schedules, meeting notes, and status reports across active EAS projects.
- Coordinate project activities by scheduling meetings, tracking action items, and following up with team members and stakeholders to keep work on track.
- Support communication between EAS, vendors, and university stakeholders; draft status updates and project correspondence under the direction of EAS leadership.
- Assist with requirements gathering, testing coordination, and go-live preparation for system implementations and upgrades.
- Contribute to operational process documentation and continuous improvement efforts within the EAS team.
