Description:

The School of Continuing Education at Purchase College, SUNY seeks candidates for Lead Instructor position from July 13 - July 24, 2026. The Journalism and Intro to Multi Media Production lead instructor position is full-time 30 hours/week; Monday, July 13 - Friday, July 24 (10 sessions; participation in Open House April 25, 2026; 9:45 - 12 noon); attendance at one Summer Staff Orientation meeting (June 25, 5PM-PM or June 27,10AM- 12PM). The position reports to the Visual Arts & Writing Programs Coordinator in the School of Continuing Education. Journalism & Multi Media Production, grades 9 - 12 2- week program. Step into the world of today's journalists and delve into the intricacies of producing impactful stories! Learn the basics of reporting, explore print, video, online, and social media formats, and uncover the story behind the headlines. You'll pick a campus story, interview key people, and create your own piece to share at the program showcase. By the end, you'll have begun developing your unique voice as a writer and leave with original work and hands-on experience in writing, communication, and visual storytelling-skills that stand out on college applications and in future careers. The primary responsibility of the position is to plan for and execute cohesive activities that support the above program description. Access to the college's television studio, equipped with professional-grade equipment and facilities may be provided. The incumbent is also responsible for planning and executing a culminating event to be held on the last day of the program. The instructor is also responsible for the overall safety of the students. Duties include, but are not limited to: creating curriculum, syllabus, and a culminating event, supervising Teacher's Assistants, reviewing supplies on hand and providing a list of any additional supply requests.

Qualifications:

Knowledge of/experience with journalism and teaching experience preferred.An undergraduate degree is required - preferably in journalism, writing or related field. A Master's degree in education, journalism, and/or teaching certification are pluses. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience: in teaching journalism or writing in a K-12 setting and/or camp setting.The successful candidate must possess strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. Additionally, he/she/they must enjoy working with children and have a commitment to the performing arts.

Special Note:
