Offer Description
This project is part of the COMP CNRS–État programme, which aims to understand living organisms across multiple scales of biological organization, ranging from the molecular regulation of chromatin to the three-dimensional architecture of developing tissues. In particular, the use of human in vitro models—stem cells, organoids, and blastoids—will enable an integrated analysis of the emergence of cellular identities within a 3D context that recapitulates key physiological aspects of human embryonic development. This project will therefore contribute to the five-year objectives of the COMP by leveraging controlled biological systems, such as human stem cells and organoids, to elucidate how molecular and subcellular alterations modulate cellular and tissue behavior under physiological and pathological conditions.
By seeking to understand the epigenetic regulation of the acquisition and plasticity of human molecular and cellular identities, this Junior Professor Chair reinforces the areas of research already developed by several teams in the laboratory, in particular on the interpretation of DNA methylation, the dynamics of histone modifications, epigenome integrity, the impact of environmental factors, and the role of non-coding RNAs in cell fate. The use of human in vitro models and mechanistic and phenotypic analyses places this project at the forefront of EDC's expertise and will promote cross-disciplinary interactions between its teams, thereby helping to consolidate the laboratory's overall scientific identity and expand its capacity for integrative exploration of cell fate.
Recent advances in high-resolution epigenomics and quantitative imaging, applied to in vitro models such as stem cells and organoids, open new avenues for investigating early human development. Key challenges include coordinating epigenetic mechanisms involved in the acquisition, maintenance, and plasticity of cell identities under physiological and pathological conditions.
This Junior Professor Chair (CPJ), focused on integrative epigenetics of cell fate, aims to develop innovative approaches combining epigenomics and quantitative cell biology. The goal is to further characterize chromatin regulation in cell diversification and reprogramming during development.
Hosted within the EDC research unit, the CPJ will benefit from an outstanding scientific environment, including 3D models (blastoids, organoids), shared technological platforms, state-of-the-art single-cell methods, and recognized expertise in human lineage biology.
The objective is to train students in the study of epigenetics and the dynamics of cellular identity using in vitro experimental models and high-resolution molecular profiling tools. This project will focus on developing expertise in epigenomic analysis (including ATAC-seq, ChIP-seq, scRNA-seq, and multi-omics), as well as the culture and manipulation of 3D models (such as organoids and blastoids). Students will also learn to interpret the mechanistic processes underlying cell differentiation. It is open to Master's or PhD students at Paris-Cité University in biology, cell biology, genomics, biochemistry or biotechnology, with a keen interest in the integration of molecular data and the study of cell fate in controlled human systems.
The CNRS is developing a strong policy in favor of open science. Open science consists of making research results "as accessible as possible and closed as necessary". As such, the CNRS aims to make 100% of the texts of publications resulting from the work of its laboratories accessible, in particular through deposit in HAL. The data produced must also be made available and reusable, except for specific restrictions. In addition, the guiding principles of individual evaluation have been revised in accordance with the DORA declaration, to be more qualitative and to take into account all facets of the researcher's profession.
The dissemination of the results will be done through world-class scientific productions: publications, patents, software... In addition, the results will be communicated to various targets such as scientific communities, media, decision makers, general public, schools, etc., with an adapted calendar. Specific tools may be developed such as websites, newsletters, meetings, international symposia, summer schools and conferences.
The relationship between science and society is now recognized as a full dimension of scientific activity. The project will develop this dimension in synergy with all the partners. The resulting research work will contribute to informing public decision-making. Participatory science initiatives may be initiated with actors from the project's socio-economic and cultural eco-system.
