Junior Research Scientist
Description
The Life Molecules & Materials Lab at New York University Abu Dhabi pursuing cutting edge research in the areas of self-organization and function of proteins seeks to recruit a junior research scientist with expertise in quantitative confocal fluorescence microscopy and membrane biochemistry.
The lab is currently focused on (1) developing bottom-up approaches to study the role of membrane shape in the function of intracellular organelles such as Golgi Apparatus and (2) understanding the determinants of protein solubility in the crowded intracellular mileu. Our research integrates biochemistry with physical chemistry and soft matter physics, and employs state-of-the-art tools including analytical ultracentrifugation, optical tweezers, confocal fluorescence microscopy, SAXS, NMR spectroscopy, and Raman spectroscopy. Group members receive training at the interface between physics, biology, and materials science, and will have access to generous travel allowances to attend international conferences and engage in scientific collaborations across the globe.
Candidates must have a B.S. in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, or a related field and should be proficient in basic quantitative microscopy and wet lab biochemistry techniques and have prior experience preparing and manipulating giant unilamellar vesicles. In addition, the successful candidate should demonstrate ability to independently perform quantitative data analysis using MATLAB, Python, or Mathematica etc. Good oral- and written communication skills in English are essential, along with great attention to detail and record-keeping in the lab. The successful applicant will also participate in guiding graduate- and undergraduate students in laboratory experiments and data analysis as well as assisting in drafting research papers and reports. Please note that this position is located outside of the United States and that the applicant must be willing to relocate to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
The terms of employment are very competitive and include generous benefits such as housing allowance and educational subsidies for children. Applications will be accepted immediately, and candidates will be considered until the position is filled.
Interested applicants are asked to submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae with a full publication list (if applicable), Transcript, a short statement of research interests, and up to two letters of reference, all in PDF format. If you have any questions, Please email Prof. Aleksander Rebane at a.rebane@nyu.edu.
