Budget Title: Instructional Support Assistant (SL-1)
Salary: $45,372 (one year, temporary)
The Abi-Ghanem Lab, located at Binghamton University, is seeking a Lab Assistant to participate in conducting behavioral, histological and molecular experiments probing oligodendrocyte and myelin in development, aging and neurological disease mouse models. Research will use mice to model neuronal development. Our studies utilize a variety of approaches, including transgenic animals, slice cultures, gene manipulation (AAVs), cognitive behavioral testing, molecular biology, immunofluorescent labeling, rodent models of multiple sclerosis, alcohol use disorder, vascular dementia, multi-etiology dementia, and Alzheimer's disease.
Key Responsibilities
- In addition to becoming proficient in laboratory techniques, the research technician will also be expected to manage the research mouse colonies, including animal husbandry and genotyping, perform general lab maintenance (e.g. purchasing and maintaining inventories of lab supplies, organization, equipment maintenance, and maintaining a safe work environment.), assist with training new lab members, and aiding in completing lab experiments. Technicians also have the opportunity to lead projects.
This is a fully in-person position that may provide opportunities to co-author presentations and publications. Therefore, it is an ideal position for candidates on the path to graduate school with interests in neuroscience research.
