Laboratory Technician - Chemistry and Food Science

Job Description:

The Opportunity | Te Whiwhinga mahi

As our technician, you’ll provide advanced technical, operational, and research support across the Chemistry and Food Science laboratories in the School of Science. You’ll manage day‑to‑day lab operations, maintain critical equipment, and work directly with academic staff and students to support hands‑on learning and high‑quality research. You will:

  • Provide equipment training and safety oversight across teaching and research laboratories
  • Ensure laboratories are maintained in a safe, compliant, and well-organised condition
  • Manage laboratory consumables, procurement processes, and inventory control

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Minimum of three years’ experience in a laboratory technician or research support role (preferred)
  • Strong academic background in Food Science, Chemistry, or a closely related discipline
  • Demonstrated experience with analytical instrumentation, method development, and laboratory safety practices
  • Proven ability to support and contribute to postgraduate research projects
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work well within a team.
  • Bachelor’s degree (BSc) required; postgraduate qualification preferred
