Job Description
The Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine is accepting applications for a Laboratory Technician II in Dr. Karina Serban's lab. The position will assist in conducting research within Dr. Serban's lab where she utilizes methods to measure biological responses in lungs affected by emphysema, a respiratory disease caused by genetic mutations or by exposure to environmental toxins like cigarette smoke. Preferred applicant will have a degree in biology or a related field and 2+ years of experience in a laboratory environment, and possess knowledge of theory and practice of scientific techniques and experimentation. Previous lab experience with molecular biology techniques, like PCR, are required as well as experience with small animal handling/manipulation.
About This Role
Plan and conduct animal experiments outlined by the Principal Investigator and the lab manager. Utilize established methods to induce various biological responses in the lung by exposing small animals inside a Teague machine to research grade cigarettes. Genotyping and keeping up-to-date electronic or written files of all transgenic colonies.
Conduct scientific experiments designed and outlined by the principal investigator and the lab manager to support the research interest of the laboratory, including RNA, DNA and protein analysis, PCR, and tissue sectioning. Keep up-to-date electronic or written notes of all experiments. Analyze data and help prepare figures for presentations in lab meetings.
Perform maintenance of lab equipment as directed by the Principal Investigator, and ensure stock supplies and consumables are inventoried routinely. Assist with the storage and disposal of chemical and biological waste. Keep records of laboratory protocols and maintain a complete and accurate laboratory notebook. Attend weekly lab meetings.
Perform additional duties as assigned by Supervisor.
