Laboratory Technologist (Micro and Nano-Fabrication Facility)
Job Description
The Laboratory Technologist at the Institute for Functional and Intelligent Materials (I-FIM) assists the Facilities Manager (FM) to oversee and manage the supply chain for all consumables and raw materials needed by the cleanroom, from sourcing and procurement to inventory management. He also assists FM in day-to-day operations of the Micro and Nano-Fabrication Facility (MNFF) by cleanroom and lab equipment usage governance. This includes taking up of ownership of some device fabrication equipment, training new users on usage of these equipment, seeing to the upkeeping, preventive maintenance and basic troubleshooting for these equipment, and assisting the safety and health officer in safety inspection and housekeeping matters.
Key Responsibilities
Procurement and sourcing inventory management
- Purchase consumables and raw materials such as chemicals and gases and ensure proper receiving and stock up
- Regularly keep track and ensure just-in-time inventories of consumables and spare parts can meet up to daily demands of users, including user’s gowns/masks/gloves, etc
- Work with related departments such as procurement and finance and liaise with vendors to align inventory needs
Cleanroom operations
- Be the owner and main trainer for some device fabrication equipment in MNFF, training new users and ensuring new users are equipped with the essential operations knowledge and safe work procedures for these tools
- Carry out regular maintenance works and basic troubleshooting skills for these tools
Assistant safety coordinator for MNFF
- Assist to conduct safety inspections for cleanroom and labs under MNFF's purview, monitor and eradicate unsafe acts and conditions and unacceptable occupational risks at the workplace and report all infringements on safety and health issues to safety coordinator
- Discuss the inspection findings with users and monitor safety rectifications from safety lead and help to ensure closure
- Maintain and update safety and health documentation such as safety licenses for compliance
- Assist to upkeep documentation essential for the 14 elements of the Safety and Health Management System
Assistant fire safety coordinator (S14 building)
- Assist fire coordinator to ensure and maintain fire safety standards within S14 building
- Some of the tasks involved are assisting to conduct fire drills once per year and tabletop exercises (TTX) twice per year
- Ensure compliance during regular inspections from the Office of Risk Management and Compliance (ORMC) and related authorities such as Singapore Civil Defence Force
Adhoc projects
- Participate in major MNFF projects such as 3-yearly cleanroom shutdown and major bi-yearly safety management system audit conducted by ORMC
- Assist Director/FM in urgent adhoc tasks for the institute
Requirements
- Academic qualifications - possess at least a diploma in the engineering or science discipline or equivalent
- At least 3 years of relevant hands-on experience handling equipment maintenance/troubleshooting in labs/cleanrooms or relevant workplace (semiconductor tools in cleanroom are most preferred)
- Preferably some experience in procurement and sourcing in raw materials or consumables used in labs and cleanrooms
- Preferably trained in emergency response and first aid
- Meticulous, resourceful and innovative with a positive work attitude, responsive and adaptive to changes in research environment
- Able to work independently and a good team player
- Good communication skills
