Position Overview
GBC is seeking a full-time, tenure-track Land Surveying and Geomatics Instructor to join our dynamic Applied Sciences faculty. This position plays a key role in advancing the Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) in Land Surveying and Geomatics program toward accreditation and broader state licensure recognition.
The successful candidate will teach both introductory and advanced undergraduate courses - such as Fundamentals of Geomatics, Urban Development, GIS for Surveyors, Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing, Adjustments, CAD for Land Surveyors, Geodesy and GPS, and Construction Surveying - and contribute to shaping the future of surveying education at GBC.
This is a campus-based position at GBC's main campus in Elko, NV. Physical presence and engagement on campus are required to support students and foster a strong, collaborative academic community.
Minimum Qualifications
- B.S. in Surveying, Geomatics, Photogrammetry, or a closely related field.
- Professional licensure or certification (e.g., Professional Land Surveyor, Professional Engineer, or Certified Photogrammetrist) - required or to be obtained within 12 months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
- M.S. (Ph.D. preferred) in Surveying, Geomatics, Photogrammetry or closely related field required or conferred within 12 months of hire.
- Expertise in Public Land Survey System (PLSS), Legal Descriptions, and Advanced Boundary Analysis.
- Experience teaching through distance education technologies or hybrid delivery models.
- Demonstrated teaching experience at the post-secondary level in surveying, geomatics, or a related field.
- Proven ability to engage students through applied, hands-on, and field-based instruction.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate courses and laboratories in land surveying and geomatics (both in-person and online formats).
- Develop course materials, syllabi, and assessments aligned with program outcomes.
- Lead and manage the accreditation process for the BAS Surveying and Geomatics program.
- Advise students, support recruitment and retention efforts, and contribute to continuous program improvement.
- Participate actively in departmental, college-wide, and system committees.
- Collaborate with regional and national industry partners to ensure curriculum relevance and program excellence.
- Maintain regular office hours and provide effective student mentorship.
- Travel within Nevada as required (reasonable accommodations available per ADA).
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Compensation Grade
Academic Faculty - 3
B Contract - 9 month (end of August to mid May) working contract paid over 12 months.
The budgeted salary range for this position is $53,414 - $82,000
Salary is based on relatable education and experience, internal equity and budgets.

Grants-in-aid for Faculty Employees
Great Basin College is proud to provide a reduced-rate tuition benefit to faculty and qualified dependents. Faculty can take up to six credits per semester at a reduced rate. Dependents of faculty have unlimited credits, but in order to be eligible children must be unmarried and under the age of 24 and must receive at least 50% of their financial support from the employee and/or employee's spouse or domestic partner.
