UNIVERSITY OF LATVIA (Registration No. [contact details available in the full listing]), Faculty of Humanities, invites applications for one part-time Leading Researcher position in Sociology and Social Work, with specialization in Social Anthropology.
The position is intended to strengthen research in social anthropology, particularly biographical and life-story research and research on exile and new migration. The successful candidate will contribute to high-quality research, research project development and implementation, supervision and consultation of students, academic cooperation, and the dissemination of research results.
Main responsibilities:
- conduct research in social anthropology, with a focus on biographical/life-story research and research on exile and new migration;
- during a six-year period, publish one peer-reviewed scientific monograph and two articles in Q1 or Q2 journals, indicating affiliation with the University of Latvia;
- present four papers at international scientific conferences in Latvia and abroad;
- participate in and/or lead at least one international or Latvian research project funded from sources outside the University of Latvia;
- prepare and submit at least two research project proposals aimed at attracting external funding;
- obtain and maintain expert status with the Latvian Council of Science;
- review and discuss scientific works and publications, and provide consultations and expert opinions within the candidate's field of competence, as required;
- supervise and consult final theses and other student research work, as required;
- supervise, consult on, and review doctoral theses, as required;
- involve at least two students per year in ongoing research projects;
- lead one research and development project;
- lead or participate in the organising committees of international or national conferences and seminars on three occasions during the six-year period;
- participate in editorial boards of scientific publications, as required;
- disseminate research results to the wider public and participate in science communication activities at least once per year;
- participate in student recruitment activities at least once per year;
- regularly coordinate research and academic cooperation with universities in Latvia and abroad and collaborate with researchers and research institutions in Latvia and internationally;
- teaching responsibilities within the thematic field of education "Humanities and Arts", in the study field "Philosophy and Ethics", and/or within the thematic field "Social Sciences, Business and Law", in the study field "Sociology and Cultural Studies".
Main qualification requirements:
- qualifications and research experience appropriate for a Leading Researcher (R4) position in Sociology and Social Work / Social Anthropology;
- demonstrated expertise in biographical and life-story research and in research on exile and new migration;
- ability to conduct independent research, publish internationally, develop research proposals, attract external research funding, and lead research and development projects;
- Latvian language proficiency at C2 level;
- English language proficiency at C1 level;
- German language proficiency at B1 level.
Additional requirements:
- a strong publication record relevant to the field, including the capacity to meet the publication targets specified for the six-year appointment period;
- experience in national and/or international research projects and in preparing competitive externally funded project proposals;
- ability to supervise and involve students in research and to contribute to academic and research cooperation in Latvia and internationally.
