About the Team
The Education Portfolio leads the provision of a distinctive UTS education for staff and students, contributing to student success through quality teaching and engaging and innovative curricula. Our teams work in partnership with Associate Deans Education, Course Directors, Subject Coordinators, Academics and Professional Staff at UTS to achieve our purpose and meet the goals of the faculties.
The Learning Design Team partners with faculties to plan, design, and produce high-quality blended and online learning experiences. The team collaborates with academic staff across undergraduate and postgraduate award courses, as well as short forms of learning for emerging markets. In addition, the team provides capability-building services to support academic staff to effectively utilise learning design and technologies to enhance the student experience.
About the Role
The Learning Designer works collaboratively within the Learning Design Team, partnering with faculties, to lead projects that shape new and enhanced digital learning experiences for students across the UTS curriculum. The incumbent partners with faculties to lead and advise on learning design initiatives that shape new and enhanced digital learning experiences across the UTS curriculum, balancing pedagogical quality, scalability, sustainability and institutional priorities.
If successful in applying for this role, you will be responsible for:
• Designing, developing and delivering high-quality digital learning products and assessments in collaboration with subject matter experts, applying sound pedagogical and technical practices.
• Adapting learning design approaches across simple to complex projects, integrating emerging technologies, data insights, and scalable or bespoke solutions as appropriate.
• Applying best practices including Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and WCAG 2.1 standards to create inclusive, accessible and engaging learning experiences.
• Providing expert advice and supporting to academics on subject design, assessment strategies, and effective use of the Digital Learning Ecosystem (DLE).
• Managing and coordinating learning design projects, balancing competing priorities, timelines and resources, while contributing to continuous improvement and innovation.
• Building strong stakeholder relationships and collaborate across teams, contributing to a positive team culture and aligning outputs with university strategies and sector best practices.
Additional HEW 8 Responsibilities
• Providing strategic leadership and oversight of a portfolio of learning design initiatives, including coordinating complex projects across faculties or teams.
• Leading and supporting team capability development, including mentoring staff, overseeing support triaging, and driving upskilling initiatives.
• Contributing to strategic planning and continuous improvement by identifying opportunities, solving complex challenges, and enhancing team effectiveness and processes.

1. Strong digital learning expertise, ideally in a tertiary context, demonstrating the application of learning design frameworks and pedagogies, effective use of technology enhanced learning approaches, and data informed design practices to create high-quality digital learning resources and scalable learning solutions.
2. Experience building and maintaining productive stakeholder relationships, including negotiation, conflict resolution and influencing skills.
3. Strategic, solutions focused mindset, with the ability to operate confidently with ambiguity, lead change, and identify opportunities for continuous improvement across systems, processes and practice.
4. Commitment to professional leadership and capability development, including mentoring others, contributing to team uplift, and promoting a culture of innovation, quality and continuous learning.

This role attracts 17% superannuation (pension) in addition to the base salary.

This position is full-time and appointment will be made on a continuing basis.
