Who we are:

At Torrens University Australia, we are passionate about creating industry-relevant learning experiences that prepare students for meaningful careers. Our Hospitality Management programs are designed in close partnership with industry and focus on real-world application, employability and authentic learning. 

We are currently seeking a Lecturer in Hospitality Management courses, based at our Surry Hills Campus in Sydney. This is a face-to-face teaching role requiring on-campus presence and direct student engagement. Some travel will be required to attend practical sessions on our simulated hotel environment at Leura, NSW.

What’s the job?

The Learning Facilitator / Lecturer is responsible for preparing, delivering and assessing allocated subjects while ensuring students are supported to achieve learning outcomes and successfully complete assessments.

You will play an active role in teaching, assessment, student support, academic quality and continuous improvement, while maintaining strong industry currency and academic scholarship in hospitality. 

Principle accountabilities (but not limited to):

Teaching & Learning 

  • Deliver high-quality, engaging face-to-face classes aligned to approved subject outlines and learning outcomes.
  • Manage small or large classes and actively monitor student participation and engagement. 
  • Apply student-centred teaching practices including flipped learning and active learning approaches. 

Assessment 

  • Prepare, review and update assessment tools in line with policy and regulatory requirements. 
  • Mark assessments and provide high-quality, timely feedback to students.
  • Determine and submit final student results within required deadlines.

Student Support & Care 

  • Proactively support students outside scheduled class time. 
  • Identify students at risk and refer appropriately to Learning Services, Success Coaches or Wellbeing teams. 
  • Actively support academic integrity and manage academic misconduct in accordance with policy.  

Scholarship, Currency & Professional Development 

  • Maintain discipline currency through professional development and industry engagement.
  • Contribute to scholarship, research or professional practice aligned to the discipline. 
  • Participate in mandatory training and ongoing academic development activities. 

Curriculum Development & Academic Administration 

  • Contribute to subject and curriculum review and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Develop and update subject materials, assessment briefs and rubrics as required. 
  • Participate in academic meetings, governance activities and quality assurance processes.

This is a permanent full-time role, based at our Surry Hills Campus.

Please note, if you are successful in securing this role, you will be required to submit:

  • Campus-based, face-to-face role 
  • Based at Surry Hills Campus, Sydney – with travel to Leura, NSW during our practical assessment days. 
  • May require work outside standard hours (evenings or peak teaching periods). 
  • Full Australian working rights required (no student visa or time-limited work rights). 
  • Current Working with Children check. 

Who you are:

Experience & Qualifications 

  • Experience in education, training and assessment (HE and/or VET).
  • Strong understanding of adult learning and pedagogical principles
  • Appropriately qualified in Hospitality or a related discipline, to at least one AQF level higher than the course being taught (or approved equivalency). 
  • Current and relevant industry experience in hospitality is highly regarded. 

Skills & Capability 

  • Strong discipline knowledge with the ability to teach across hospitality subject areas.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High service ethos and strong commitment to student success. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively with academic and professional teams. 
  • Confidence using learning technologies and LMS platforms. 
  • Ability to engage and support a diverse student cohort. 

Regulatory Knowledge 

  • Understanding of TEQSA, ASQA, ESOS and the National Code 2018 requirements.
  • Commitment to compliance with all academic, regulatory and organisational standards.
