Kōrero mō te tūranga — About the role

Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington is seeking a Learning Systems Specialist to join our Te Tai Matihiko - Digital Solutions team on a permanent, full-time basis.

This role provides specialised technical leadership across the University’s Learning Management System (Canvas) and associated learning tools. Acting as the Product Owner for the learning platform, you will balance day‑to‑day operational reliability with continuous improvement, ensuring the platform meets current needs while remaining future‑focused.

You will manage growth and change within the learning environment, lead the integration of modern learning tools such as Panopto and Qualtrics, and work closely with the Centre for Academic Development (CAD), and academics to enable innovative and effective use of learning technologies.

You’ll be part of a collaborative Te Tai Matihiko - Digital Solutions team, working closely with academic partners and influencing a core system that underpins teaching and learning across the University. We offer flexible working, professional development, and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the student experience.

Key responsibilities:

  • Product ownership of the University’s learning platform, including backlog management, prioritisation, and roadmap contribution.
  • Technical administration and operational oversight of Canvas and its integrations.
  • Managing platform integrations, upgrades, vendors, and change across a complex ecosystem.
  • Partnering with academic and professional stakeholders to translate teaching and learning needs into practical technical solutions.
  • Contributing to the design and sustainability of enterprise‑scale digital learning environments.

Ō pūmanawa — About you

You are technically confident, collaborative, and comfortable operating at the intersection of platform ownership and hands‑on support. You can explain complex technical concepts clearly, build strong relationships across diverse groups, and take a pragmatic, service‑oriented approach to delivering reliable learning systems.

You will bring experience supporting digital learning technologies—ideally within a tertiary or large organisation—along with a commitment to accessible, inclusive, and culturally responsive practice, and to honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
