Lecturer in Biology
Position Summary
The Department of Biology in the College of Arts and Sciences at North Central College invites applications from broadly trained anatomy and physiology lecturer for a non tenure-track position to begin Fall 2026.
The duties in this role may include:
- Primarily teaching in the 2-semester anatomy and physiology course sequence This will include both lecture and laboratory sections; some laboratory sections will be in the evening.
- Occasional instruction in the non-major’s human biology course may be available.
- Provide instruction for 24-credit hours per academic year
- Utilize active, engaging pedagogies in the classroom
- Hold office hours and be present on campus for considerable time each week
- Mentor students in one-on-one and group interactions
- Assess student work and provide constructive and timely feedback on how to improve students’ content knowledge, critical thinking skills, research abilities, and oral and written communication skills, etc.
- Engage with Biology faculty and the Center for Faculty Excellence to further develop teaching and mentoring skills; complete campus-wide training required by the Offices of Academic Affairs and Human Resources
- Perform other departmental duties and attend activities as necessary, including attending department meetings, representing the department at Admissions events, and participating in committees, task forces, and others as required.
Basic Qualifications:
- MS degree or equivalent (e.g., PhD candidate) in a related area and teaching experience. A PhD in related field is desirable.
- Applicants should have demonstrated potential for excellence in undergraduate teaching.
