Lecturer in International Relations (Terrorism & Political Violence and International Security)

- Full-time fixed term contract for up to 40 months
- Salary Range: $114,917 to $135,932 per annum (plus 17% superannuation)

Work that matters
Adelaide University College of Education, Behavioural and Social Sciences delivers leading education and research investigating the development, motivations and consequences of human behaviour across the lifespan.
The School of Society and Culture explores how human being – in all its breadth, depth and range – manifests in social, cultural, environmental, gendered and political terms. It takes in everything from terrorism to climate change; from crime and deviance to what it takes to sustain robust democracy; from understanding how responsible development can change the world to making ethnographic insights into how to make the world safe for human difference.
This role will teach in the area of International Relations and will tackle geopolitical and socioeconomic issues that have wide-reaching impact through a selection of focus areas.

Essential Criteria
To join our community and thrive in this role, you will likely have the following skills and experience:
- Doctoral qualification in a discipline relevant to International Relations or Political Science
- Broad understanding of teaching and research in International Relations across different disciplinary areas, and current knowledge of global issues
- Demonstrated teaching experience at a tertiary level in topics relevant to Terrorism & Political Violence and International Security, with skills and experience that demonstrate this capacity
- Proven ability to contribute successfully to a multidisciplinary work environment
- Strong research interests connected to international security and authoritarianism, with demonstrated ability for cross-disciplinary research and collaboration
- Demonstrated knowledge and application of qualitative or mixed research methods
- Supervision of the program of research of undergraduate, honours or postgraduate students
- Relative to opportunity and career stage, a proven track record of strong research outcomes, including in publications, grant applications and/or project management
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- A commitment to undertaking research and teaching on-campus at Adelaide University for the duration of the contract
Desirable:
- Experience in HDR supervision as part of an effective supervisory team
- Experience with online teaching and online learning management systems and understanding of relevant pedagogy
- Written and spoken language skills in Spanish or Arabic
- Demonstrated experience in research methods relating to sensitive human research ethics.
