Position description
Applicants internal to the UCM Department of Physics who had an appointment in 2025-2026 and apply by the 'Initial Review Date' of 3/20/2026 will be considered prior to all other applicants.
The School of Natural Sciences anticipates hiring full and part-time lecturer positions to teach the following subjects in AY 2026-2027:
- Introductory Physics I for Physical Sciences
- Introductory Physics I for Physical Sciences Lab
- Introductory Physics II for Physical Sciences
- Introductory Physics II for Physical Sciences Lab
- Introductory Physics I for Biological Sciences
- Introductory Physics I for Biological Sciences Lab
- Introductory Physics II for Biological Sciences
- Introductory Physics II for Biological Sciences Lab
- Other courses as needed
In addition to teaching the course(s), the instructor will be evaluating student work and exams, calculating and posting grades, holding regular posted office hours each week, organizing and maintaining course information on learning management systems, and supervising Teaching Assistants and Learning Assistants.
This is a limited-term appointment which falls under the purview of the agreement for the Lecturers Unit between University of California and the American Federation of Teachers. Terms and conditions of employment are subject to UC policy and appropriate collective bargaining agreement. See the current Lecturers Unit (IX) bargaining agreement for additional information.
Appointments for AY 2026/2027 and/or Fall 2026 semester are reviewed in April, and for Spring 2027 semester are reviewed in October. The posting will remain open through February 2027 to accommodate upcoming course needs and new applicants.

Basic qualifications
Advanced degree in Physics or related field and experience teaching at the college or university level is required.
