Position title: Lecturer in Summer Session Salary range: A reasonable estimate for an initial appointment is $70,977. See Unit 18 Lecturer table for the salary range for this position. For current appointees, normal compensation will be based on the annual salary of the Unit 18 non-senate faculty in effect as of June 30 of the calendar year in which summer session begins. Salary is prorated in accordance with the instructional workload calculation. Anticipated start: Anticipated Start Dates Vary by Session:
Summer A : 5/20/2026
Summer B: 6/22/2026
Summer C: 7/3/2026
Summer D: 5/20/2026 Position duration: Duration through summer session 2026.

Position description

The School of Natural Sciences anticipates hiring full and part-time lecturer positions to teach the following subjects in Summer 2026:

  • Introduction to Physics I for Biology Lab
  • Introduction to Physics II for Biology Lab
  • Introductory Physics I
  • Introductory Physics I Lab
  • Introductory Physics II
  • Introductory Physics II Lab
  • Physics I - Biology
  • Physics II - Biology
  • Other courses as needed

In addition to teaching the course(s), the instructor will be evaluating student work and exams, calculating and posting grades, holding regular posted office hours each week, organizing and maintaining course information on learning management systems, and supervising Teaching Assistants and Learning Assistants.

This is a limited-term appointment which falls under the purview of the agreement for the Lecturers Unit between University of California and the American Federation of Teachers. Terms and conditions of employment are subject to UC policy and appropriate collective bargaining agreement. See the current Lecturers Unit (IX) bargaining agreement for additional information.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications
Advanced degree in Physics or related field and experience teaching at the college or university level is required.
