Lecturer (Level B) in Geoscience (Basin Analysis)

  • Incremental progression based on 12 months continuous service.
  • Level B, full-time appointment on tenurable basis.
  • Base salary range: $118,150 - $139,812 p.a. plus 17% superannuation.

About the area

The School of Earth and Oceans is a group of internationally recognised educators and researchers who undertake broad-ranging fundamental and applied research in Earth and Ocean Sciences and Ocean Engineering. Western Australia relies heavily on its mineral, energy, groundwater and coastal marine and offshore resources driving strong research programs in the School focusing on scientific discovery, engineering solutions and evidence-based management of these resources.

Leveraging Western Australia’s extensive geological record and diverse groundwater systems, the School has a well-established reputation in Archean–Proterozoic geology and geochemistry, mineral geoscience and exploration, basin analysis, hydrogeology, and geodata analytics. The magnificent coastline of WA facing the Indian and Southern Oceans also supports the School’s major strengths in coastal processes, physical oceanography, and offshore engineering focusing on renewable energy resources, and Antarctic geoscience.

About the opportunity

  • Contribute to the academic environment and success of the School.
  • Deliver high-quality learning experiences for students and contribute to online and fieldwork teaching.
  • Develop and manage an independent research program, establish collaborative research with national and international partners and industry and government end users, and actively participate in research training of honours, masters and PhD students.

About you

  • A PhD in geoscience (basin analysis) relevant to the role.
  • Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching including field-based and online teaching that support excellent student learning experiences, with the ability and willingness to mentor and supervise students.
  • Commitment to innovative teaching and demonstrated excellent scientific communication and organisational skills.
  • A strong track record of high-quality earth science research relative to opportunity which will enhance the School’s reputation nationally and internationally.
  • Evidence of potential to generate and grow an externally funded innovative research program from diverse funding sources, including government grants and industry.
