Lecturer (Level B) or Senior Lecturer (Level C) in Electrical & Electronic Engineering (Power Electronics)

  • Full-time, Continuing position
  • Salary Academic Level B ($115,303 - $136,925 p.a.) or Level C ($141,247 - $162,872 p.a.) + 17% Superannuation
  • Based at the Melbourne CBD campus but may be required to work and/or be based at other campuses of the University
  • Teaching commitments may include offshore fly-in fly-out (FIFO) delivery

About the Roles

Join RMIT's Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering within the School of Engineering and contribute to impactful teaching and research in power electronics, power and electrical systems. This opportunity is available at either Lecturer (Level B) or Senior Lecturer (Level C), depending on your experience and research profile.

You will contribute to the delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate programs and advance your scholarly, research and/or professional capabilities, while building strong connections with academic, industry and professional communities. Teaching commitments may include offshore fly-in fly-out (FIFO) delivery.

We strongly encourage applications from candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Power electronics in general
  • Topologies and devices of power electronic systems
  • Modulation and controlling strategies for power electronic systems
  • Electrical applications of power electronic systems

Key Responsibilities

As a Lecturer (Level B), you will:

  • Deliver high-quality teaching across undergraduate, honours and postgraduate programs in power electronics, power and electrical systems related areas, including assessment design, moderation and continuous improvement informed by student feedback and course evaluation activities.
  • Contribute to curriculum and course material development, including online delivery.
  • Undertake independent and collaborative research in power electronics and related areas (e.g., topologies, devices, modulation, controlling strategies and applications of power electronics), including publishing in quality outlets and contributing to external funding applications.
  • Supervise Higher Degree by Research (HDR) candidates.
  • Build and maintain effective partnerships and networks with industry, government and the profession to support research impact and alternative funding opportunities.
  • Undertake academic administration duties, which may include course coordination or management/coordination of student-related activities.

As a Senior Lecturer (Level C), you will also:

  • Coordinate and teach large courses in power electronics, power and electrical systems related areas, and implement innovative approaches to student-centred learning and quality improvement.
  • Provide research leadership with a nationally recognised research track record in power electronics and related areas (e.g., topologies, devices, modulation, controlling strategies and applications of power electronics), including building high-performing research teams, leading projects/programs, and securing external research funding.
  • Manage funded research projects (including complex budgets and reporting) and deliver high-quality research outputs as lead author and collaborator.
  • Lead supervision to maximise HDR research performance and mentor academic staff to deliver high-quality outcomes.
  • Contribute significantly to School/College strategy, governance and administration, including program management of a large award program (or multiple smaller programs).

About You

You are a collaborative academic with deep technical capability in power electronics/power and electrical systems and a commitment to excellent teaching, impactful research and meaningful industry engagement.

You will have:

  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and deliver teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in power electronics, power and electrical systems related areas, including online delivery and high-quality curriculum materials.
  • Strong capability to work effectively with students and support learning outcomes, including managing learning-related issues with sensitivity.
  • A growing (Level B) or nationally recognised (Level C) research profile in power electronics and related areas (e.g., converters/topologies, devices, modulation, control, applications), evidenced by quality outputs, research initiatives, funding activity and industry links.
  • Demonstrated HDR supervision capability.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with an ability to build effective networks with colleagues, industry and government.

In addition, for Level C you will have:

  • Experience in research leadership (team building, mentoring, funding success) and the ability to manage funded research projects, budgets and reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage program teams and support scholarly development of less experienced academic staff, plus an understanding of governance and quality management systems within a university.

Qualifications:

Mandatory: A PhD in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent in relevant field.
