Your next career opportunity
You will join the School of BioSciences in an education and research role (40% research/40% teaching/20% service), contributing to the Master of Biotechnology and the undergraduate Biotechnology major in the Bachelor of Science. You will have the opportunity to lead an independent microbial biotechnology research program, supervise higher degree students, and teach the business and commercialisation elements of biotechnology while building industry and academic partnerships.
What you will deliver:
- Lead Research and Research Training: Undertake internationally competitive microbial biotechnology research, pursue funding, publish outputs and supervise Honours, master's and PhD students.
- Teach and Coordinate Programmes: Develop and deliver teaching for the Master of Biotechnology and undergraduate biotechnology major, coordinate subjects and mentor students.
- Build Partnerships and Impact: Foster collaborations with industry, government and academic partners to translate research and support commercial outcomes.
- Provide Leadership and Service: Contribute to the collegial community of the School and BioSciences with opportunities to contribute to decision making through committees at the School and Faculty levels. Promote inclusion and integrity, and support public engagement and strategic planning through engagement activities servicing the larger University of Melbourne community.
You may be a great fit if:
- You have a PhD in biotechnology, microbial biology, molecular biology or another relevant field.
- You possess a track record of research outputs (publications, patents or commercial outcomes) and experience preparing funding proposals.
- You are an engaged educator with experience teaching at the tertiary level and the ability to teach business and commercialisation topics relevant to the business of biotechnology.
- You are a professional with hands on biotechnology industry experience in microbial product development.
- You have experience supervising higher degree students and mentoring early career researchers.
- You demonstrate leadership, collaborative teamwork and a commitment to diversity and inclusive practice.
