Lecturer (Research and Teaching Track) in Law

The University of Surrey is a global community of ideas and people, dedicated to life-changing education and research.

We are ambitious and have a bold vision of what we want to achieve - shaping ourselves into one of the best universities in the world, which we are achieving through the talents and endeavour of every employee.

Our culture empowers people to achieve this aim and to collectively, and individually, make a real difference.

The role

Surrey Law School is committed to undertaking original, outstanding scholarship, and to delivering innovative, engaging teaching. The 2025 National Student Survey placed the school in the top 16 in the UK for law and the school was ranked 6th in the UK in REF 2021 for overall quality of research publications. The school comprises three main research clusters: The Surrey Centre for Law and Philosophy, the Surrey Centre for International and Environmental Law, and the Law and Technology Hub. Our ethos is a warm and collegial one that encourages reflection and engagement with research and pedagogy. Staff are given generous time to develop their interest in both aspects of academic life.

We seek to appoint a lecturer to a teaching and research position in any area of expertise. We have particular interest in scholars whose research is relevant to the work of a Surrey interdisciplinary Institute or Research Centre, including Surrey Space Institute, the Surrey Institute for People-Centred AI, the Institute for Sustainability, the Future of Work Research Centre, the Centre of Excellence on Aging, and the Centre for the Study of Global Power Competition, and / or to some aspect of law and technology or defence or national security policy. The successful applicant will be expected to deliver teaching in core undergraduate modules and support will be given to develop the required pedagogical expertise. There is an expectation that the appointee will demonstrate exceptional research performance.

For an informal discussion about the position, please email Associate Professor Ira Lindsay, Head of School, at i.lindsay@surrey.ac.uk

How to apply
