SoMS research has a strong local and global impact, supported by over $60M in annual funding.
SoMS contributes teaching to a range of programs, including Science, Medical Science, and professional degrees such as the Doctor of Medicine and Doctor of Dentistry.
This position sits within the Neuroscience research theme, which focuses on understanding the structure and function of the nervous system and the mechanisms underlying neurological disorders. Our research integrates cellular and molecular biology, genomics, neuroimaging, and anatomical, physiological, and pharmacological approaches in human and animal models. Our goal is to translate basic and clinical neuroscience discoveries into new therapies and clinical applications that improve health and well-being. Key focus areas include neurodevelopmental, neurocognitive, and neuropsychiatric disorders, movement disorders, neuroinflammatory conditions, headache, pain, and spinal cord injury.
Neuroscience theme members deliver research-led teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, incorporating both research and educational expertise to help develop the next generation of research leaders in medical sciences, as well as training leaders in healthcare, dentistry and medicine.
We are seeking a Lecturer to make a significant contribution to teaching and learning practice, design, and evaluation, while continuing to build their research contribution either independently, or in collaboration with one of our many neuroscience research teams. They will grow their expertise, and impact within the discipline. The role will contribute significantly to the strategic research and educational goals of the school and faculty.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- undertake independent teaching in neuroscience, contributing to outstanding educational design, delivery, evaluation and outcomes
- engage in high-quality teaching and learning experiences which meet the University's expectations and standards for education
- design and deliver quality educational units of study and experiences that support student needs and meet curriculum requirements
- contribute to the design and delivery of multi-disciplinary work-integrated learning units and content
- engage in supervision of research students at undergraduate level, in accordance with the requirements and expectations of the School/ Faculty/ University
- contribute to a positive workplace culture in which diversity of thought, contribution, collaboration, excellence and achieving outcomes are valued and enabled
- undertake other duties appropriate within the classification level as required.
About you
- doctorate or PhD in a relevant field
- experience in teaching and learning, as evidenced by participation in team teaching and teaching in a variety of settings, and demonstrated success in designing, implementing and evaluating teaching and learning initiatives
- ability to communicate effectively to a diverse cadre of students and staff
- experience in conducting original research and/or engaging in scholarly activity
- outstanding skills in research, critical thinking and decision making, planning and organisation, and delivering presentations effectively
- a developing network of relationships with key academic, industry and professional institutions, partners and stakeholders
- excellent collegiality across teaching and research.
