Lecturer (Violin or Viola)
Job Description:
The Department of Music at Binghamton University (SUNY) seeks to hire a violinist or violist for a lecturer position beginning Fall 2026. This is a full-time position (non-tenure track) for a term of up to three years, with the possibility of renewal. Applicants should possess a professional profile that includes substantial performing experience in solo, chamber and orchestral music, as well as demonstrated engagement with new music and/or work by underrepresented composers. The successful candidate's teaching will consist of studio lessons in violin and viola (a balance as needed), studio classes, and coaching chamber music. This lecturer will also lead orchestral string sectionals a few times each semester.
The Binghamton University Music Department, part of the Schools of the Arts within Harpur College of Arts and Science, offers graduate and undergraduate degrees, including the Master of Music degree with emphasis in Composition, Conducting, History & Literature, Instrumental Performance, and Vocal Performance; the Master of Music in Opera, the Bachelor of Music in Performance, and the Bachelor of Arts in Music with specializations in Composition, Musicology, and Performance. The department also serves students from all majors across the university as part of Harpur College of Arts and Sciences.

Requirements:
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in violin or viola performance, or a closely related field by August 17, 2026.
- Experience teaching violin or viola at the college or conservatory level.
- Evidence of the ability to teach violin and viola at a range of levels.
- Professional-level performing ability, as demonstrated by recordings of recent performances.
- Evidence of a commitment to diverse repertoire in teaching and performance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Doctoral degree (completed or ABD) in violin and/or viola performance, or a related field.
- Experience leading performance classes (studio classes, sectionals, etc.).
- Experience preparing students for degree recitals, competitions, and auditions.
- Experience coaching chamber music for strings and mixed ensembles.
- Experience in undergraduate and/or graduate recruitment.
