The Opportunity:

The School is looking to hire a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in the following research/teaching areas:

  • The Lecturer/Senior Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Organisation Theory will contribute to the School’s research and teaching mission through high-quality scholarship in organisation theory, management, or organisational sociology, with the capacity to publish in leading academic journals. The role involves delivering engaging undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, developing innovative learning activities, and supporting diverse student cohorts. The appointee will also contribute to collaborative research, grant applications, HDR supervision, and service to the School and Faculty.
  • The Lecturer/Senior Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in International Business will undertake high-quality research with a disciplinary focus in international business, demonstrating the potential to publish in leading journals and contribute to the School’s research profile. The role includes delivering high-quality teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, designing contemporary learning resources, and supporting student learning outcomes. The position will also contribute to collaborative research, competitive funding applications, HDR supervision, and academic service activities within the School and Faculty.
  • The Lecturer/Senior Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Entrepreneurship will contribute to the School’s research and teaching mission through scholarship in entrepreneurship, innovation, or strategy, with the capacity to publish in leading academic journals. The role includes delivering engaging teaching, developing innovative learning experiences, and supporting student learning and employability outcomes across undergraduate and postgraduate programs. The appointee will also contribute to collaborative research projects, competitive grant applications, HDR supervision, and service to the School and Faculty.

The role of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer (Assistant Professor) reports to the Head of School and has no direct reports. The position being offered is tenure track in accordance with the UNSW Enterprise Agreement.

Responsibilities:

Accountabilities Level B (Lecturer) are but not limited to:

  • Demonstrate capacity to undertake scholarly research publishable in the leading academic journals
  • Demonstrate teaching excellence and continuously develop a well-defined teaching philosophy that inspires student learning.
  • Conduct classes, assess student learning achievements, and support students in postgraduate and undergraduate courses in line with UNSW policy.
  • Design and develop learning activities and resources, and provide assessment and feedback using a range of suitable approaches and learning environments.
  • Support learning progression with students as individuals (through such activities as one-to-one consultation) and as a cohort (through general course related advice) to achieve positive learning and employability outcomes for students.
  • Manage course administration, including academic quality assurance.
  • Maintain professional development in pedagogy, disciplinary knowledge, and minimum professional accreditation requirements (where relevant).
  • Make a positive contribution to School meetings and seminars and be a member of School/Faculty committees as required.
  • Engage in individual and/or collaborative research in a manner consistent with disciplinary practice.
  • Conduct research/scholarly activities under limited supervision, either independently or as a member of a team (as per the norms of the discipline) and design research projects.
  • Contribute to the development of applications for competitive funding under the guidance of senior colleagues, including participating as co-investigator or chief investigator in competitive grant applications.
  • Involvement in supervision of HDR students.

Accountabilities Level C (Senior Lecturer) in addition to Level B:

  • Pursue and develop an active and productive research program at high levels (i.e., publications in leading refereed journals, research grant applications, research student supervision, presentation to conferences and publications in conference proceedings).
  • Develop and teach undergraduate, postgraduate, and/or research courses
  • Apply a well-defined teaching philosophy and a critically reflective teaching practice that inspires student learning.
  • Make independent contributions to research that have a significant impact in their field of expertise and create a nationally recognised research track record.
  • Undertake independent research in discipline or related area (as per the norms of the discipline), making an independent contribution through professional practice and expertise.
  • Develop research groups in area of specialist expertise and research methods that are appropriate to the discipline.
  • Attract peer recognition and establish research network/s (based on the norms of the discipline) at national level.
  • Obtain research income from nationally competitive research grants (and/or research fellowships) and research end-users as a member or leader, at or above the level that is relevant to the discipline in leading universities.
  • Mentor and guide students, groups, and colleagues; supervise HDRs to timely completion as primary supervisor; and contribute to HDR review panels.

About you:

You will possess the following skills and experiences required as a Level B:

  • A PhD and/or relevant work experience with an organization theory, management, or sociology focus.
  • Proven commitment to keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments.
  • Demonstrated track record of, and/or demonstrable potential for, research that leads to research outcomes of high quality and high impact, with clear evidence of the desire and ability to continually achieve research excellence.
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching and delivery at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
  • Experience using educational technologies and online delivery methods.
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness and passion for educational excellence.
  • Evidence of ability to support and inspire students from diverse backgrounds and support student equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives.
  • High level communication skills and ability to network effectively and interact with a diverse range of students and staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
  • Evidence of highly developed interpersonal and organisational skills.

Skills and experiences required for the role as a Level C (in addition to Level B):

  • A PhD in a related discipline, and/or relevant work experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching and learning design using a range of pedagogical approaches, development and delivery of courses and programs, at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
  • Demonstrated success in initiating curriculum development and improvement.
  • Demonstrated experience with industry or work-integrated learning.
  • Demonstrated track record in research with outcomes of high quality and high impact with clear evidence of the desire and ability to continually achieve research excellence as well as the capacity for research leadership.
  • Experience in successfully recruiting and supervising high calibre students.
