About This Opportunity

Join a visionary and collaborative medical education community where your expertise in assessment shapes the quality, integrity and impact of the Doctor of Medicine program. As a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Medical Education (Assessment of Knowledge), you will play a pivotal role in leading the design, delivery and continuous improvement of knowledge assessment across the MD curriculum.

Working within the Office of MD Curriculum and Assessment, you will collaborate with academic, clinical and professional colleagues across multiple clinical sites to ensure assessment practices are robust, equitable and aligned with accreditation expectations, while enhancing assessment literacy for both students and staff.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Teaching: Leading the design, development and coordination of written and knowledge-based assessments across all years of the MD program, ensuring alignment with staged learning outcomes and curriculum objectives.
  • Assessment Design and Quality Assurance: Developing high-quality assessment items, overseeing standard setting processes, and ensuring validity, reliability and fairness through moderation, assessor training and data-informed review.
  • Assessment Leadership and Data Use: Interpreting assessment performance data to inform progression decision-making, continuous improvement and reporting to relevant committees.
  • Citizenship and Service: Contributing to governance, committees and working groups, fostering a respectful and inclusive culture, and representing the MD program in relevant national and international collaborations.

About You

You are an inquisitive and purposeful medical educator with a strong commitment to assessment excellence and student learning. You bring both technical expertise and a collaborative mindset, enabling you to influence practice and build shared understanding across diverse stakeholder groups.

  • Medical qualification and eligibility for registration as a medical practitioner in Australia.
  • Demonstrated experience in the design and development of knowledge assessments, including multiple choice tests, written assessments and assessment within clinical practice.
  • Proven ability to develop high-quality written assessment items aligned with curriculum objectives and accreditation standards.
  • Demonstrated experience in standard setting, applying evidence-based methodologies and conducting statistical analyses to support valid, reliable and fair assessment outcomes.
  • Ability to interpret assessment performance data to identify trends and implement improvements in assessment practice.
  • Well-developed communication, interpersonal and consultative skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across teaching and learning communities.
  • Demonstrated ability to build commitment and secure support from colleagues to deliver complex tasks and projects.
  • A track record of developing clear, accessible assessment guidance for exam takers and assessment providers.

Additional Requirements at Level C:

  • National recognition for research or governance impact in the discipline and/or National profile in research in a relevant discipline.
  • A record of meaningful internal service roles, including the successful mentoring of less experienced staff, in conjunction with evidence of leadership in external activities.
