We have an exciting opportunity for a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer to join JCU's Indigenous Education and Research Centre on a fixed-term basis until February 2027. Through teaching, research and community engagement, you will advance Indigenous Knowledges and Indigenous Futures through innovative learning experiences and build collaborative partnerships that deliver meaningful impact.

• Full-time, fixed-term opportunity | 36.25 hours per week
• Based at the Townsville Bebegu Yumba campus
• Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications within Band B (Lecturer) $112,810 – $133,110 or Band C (Senior Lecturer) $137,166 – $157,465, plus up to 17% superannuation

About the role

As a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer, you will contribute to the development and delivery of subjects and courses exploring Indigenous Knowledges, Indigenous Futures and the intersection of Indigenous and Western knowledge traditions. You will create engaging learning experiences across lectures, tutorials, workshops, field activities and online teaching, while contributing to curriculum development, assessment and subject coordination.

Your research will connect with contemporary social, environmental and technological priorities. Working independently and collaboratively, you will build partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, industry and other stakeholders, contribute to grant and consultancy opportunities, and support research with meaningful community impact.

Beyond your teaching and research, you will supervise or co-supervise postgraduate students, contribute to academic and university committees, and participate in outreach activities that strengthen JCU’s visibility and reputation. Through your work, you will help advance the University’s commitment to reconciliation, sustainability and Indigenous education.

What you will bring to the role

You will hold a relevant doctoral qualification and bring expertise in Indigenous Knowledges, Indigenous Futures, Indigenous governance, Indigenous-led innovation, or related fields. You will have experience teaching and supporting students in higher education, together with a demonstrated ability to engage respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, organisations and communities.

Your research or scholarly experience, strong communication skills and capacity to contribute to collaborative research, grants and partnerships will enable you to create meaningful impact.

For appointment as a Senior Lecturer Level C, you will also demonstrate an established record of teaching excellence, research achievement, HDR supervision, successful funding outcomes and academic leadership.
