Organizational Unit Overview
The William E. Laupus Health Sciences Library (Laupus Library) serves as the primary information resource center for the East Carolina Universitys instructional, research, and patient care programs in the health sciences. It also serves as a comprehensive information resource center for health care professionals in eastern North Carolina. Laupus Library also serves as a secondary resource of health care information for the local community. At Laupus, we emphasize proactive information provision including the acquisition of current and relevant materials, reference services that recognize the existence of diverse levels of client expertise and needs, and the implementation of new technologies for accessing and managing information.
Job Duties
The Information and Research Services Liaison Librarian provides proactive, library user-centered education, research, and information services using a variety of methods and technologies. This position will serve as a liaison to one or more departments, colleges, or schools within ECUs Health Sciences Campus. The initial and primary liaison assignment will be to the College of Nursing and Eastern Area Health Education Center (EAHEC), but may include other assignments as needed.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provides expert reference, searching and research assistance, including systematic reviews and other kinds of expert level searches.
- Serves as a liaison to assigned programs in colleges and schools in ECUs Health Sciences by building and maintaining strong professional relationships with faculty and students.
- Works occasional shifts at the Service Desk including some Saturdays.
- Develops, markets, and delivers instruction sessions on a variety of library and information seeking skills and related topics.
- Participates in the Laupus Library Systematic Review Service.
- Participates in scholarly activities and professional service.
Minimum Education/Experience
ALA accredited masters degree in library or information science, or international equivalent.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
- Preference will be given to candidates with experience in an academic or health sciences library, or who can communicate a thorough understanding of the roles and functions of a librarian in the health sciences.
- Demonstrated participation in teams to conduct systematic reviews, practice guidelines, evidence synthesis, consensus statements, and similar tasks
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Adaptability, particularly related to the changing field of librarianship
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong customer service orientation
