Position Summary
This position is responsible for diagnosing and treating patients to improve mobility, manage pain, and restore physical function at Boynton Health. Physical therapists create personalized non-surgical treatment plans—often involving exercise, manual therapy, and education—to help patients recover from injuries, manage chronic conditions, improve movement, restore function, and prevent future injury or disability.
Overview of Responsibilities
Patient care 90%
- Independently provides ambulatory care physical therapy services including evaluation, assessment, treatment, re-evaluation and discharge planning of patients referred from other health professionals and those utilizing direct access.
- Restores, maintains and promotes physical function, wellness, fitness, movement, and quality of life of patients served.
- Provides education, therapeutic exercise, neuromuscular re-education, therapeutic activities, gait training, electrotherapeutic modalities, manual therapies and other approved PT treatments for the treatment of acute and chronic injury and conditions.
- Creates and maintains patient records, and documents all aspects of care in the EHR including, but not limited to, history, evaluation, assessment, treatment, treatment efficacy, and plan of care.
- Consults with other physical therapists or other health professionals to coordinate patient care and facilitate appropriate treatment planning.
- Shares visit findings, treatment options, injury prevention, disease management, disease prevention, and importance of patient compliance with patients and referring providers.
- Refers patients to other clinicians within and outside of Boynton Health, when appropriate, to enhance/augment patient care.
- Schedules patient follow-ups and returns all patient correspondence in a timely manner.
- Provides documentation for work and school accommodations as indicated.
- Provides educational material to patients relating to their condition or treatment plan.
Compliance and Administrative 10%
- Timely completion of billing services for all procedures and patient diagnosis on behalf of the University of Minnesota.
- Comply with documentation standards required by government and third party payers.
- Maintain an active MN State PT License; Adhere to all statutes and rules included in the MN PT Practice Act.
- Completion compliance training, including HIPAA, BBP, Employee Right to Know, Medicare training, Active Threat Training and other training as assigned.
- Attend and participate in department staff meetings, staff retreats, assigned committee meetings and other assigned meetings and training sessions.
- Participate in the clinical education of professional physical therapy students and student volunteers.
- Participation in Boynton Health's yearly Peer Review process, as assigned.
- Participation in the Clinic's AAAHC credentialing process, as assigned.
- Follow all established Boynton Health policies and procedures.
- Promote a safe, equitable, and respectful environment in which concerns can be addressed effectively.
- Perform other duties consistent with the job classification and position description.
Required Qualifications
- Licensed physical therapist in the State of Minnesota.
- Terminal PT degree plus at least one year of experience.
- Able to work a variable work schedule and at any of our clinic locations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a college or university health center.
- Experience working with individuals from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Experience working with digital documentation platforms.
- Outpatient orthopedic PT experience.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently without the assistance of a PTA or PT aide.
