Licensed Practical Nurse (Oconee)
Job Summary
The University of North Georgia is accepting application for a full-time, benefitted Licensed Practical Nurse position at Student Health Services with main responsibilities on the Oconee Campus. Responsibilities include both clinical and administrative duties, including but not limited to triage, vital signs, telehealth facilitation, basic first aid, performing in-house laboratory tests, patient education, and processing immunizations for in-coming students. This position will require performance of phlebotomy, obtaining and processing specimens, and injection of medications/immunizations. Must be able to recognize an emergency and initiate emergency care. The ability to collaborate and work as a team from a distance with colleagues working on other campuses is an essential function of this position. Will also assist with campus Well-Being and Student Health Services programming initiatives and education. Must have flexibility to work occasional weekends when necessary for special events (2-3 per academic year). Technology and computer skills are required for electronic health records, UNG Banner system, and telehealth programs/equipment. Requires occasional coverage on Gainesville Campus.
Responsibilities
- Perform triage, nursing assessment, and telehealth visit facilitation. Obtain health histories and document findings in the electronic health record (EHR). Perform phlebotomy and CLIA-waived laboratory tests and process lab specimens. Administer medications and treatments, including injections, wound care, nebulizer therapy, and other nurse-driven protocols as ordered.
- Assist in development and implementation of patient education and promotion of Student Health Services programming. Assists with campus Well-Being initiatives and serves on campus committees.
- Facilitate referrals to community providers, specialists, or campus mental health services as appropriate. Coordinate follow-up care as directed by the healthcare providers.
- Work directly with the Director/Assistant Director of SHS on special projects, including but not limited to, flu vaccine clinics, self-care stations/vending machines and telehealth initiatives.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation following FERPA, HIPAA-related practices, and university policies.
- Attend meetings as required. Assist with Nighthawk Previews, New Student Orientations, or other university-sponsored events as required. Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Knowledge of evidence-based practice and nursing trends.
- Familiarity with HIPPA and FERPA regulations and patient confidentiality.
- Computer skills, reliable transportation.
- Organized, communicates well, interpersonal skills with students, faculty/staff and parents.
- Must have ability to network with area medical providers and facilities to enhance referrals when needed.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma
- Graduate from an approved practical nursing program.
- Registered as Licensed Practical Nurse in the state if Georgia. AHA BLS/AED certification required.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience as a licensed practical nurse.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the outpatient/urgent care setting preferred.
