Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT II) - Anesthesia
Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking a skilled Veterinary Technician to join our hospital team. In this role, you'll provide hands-on anesthesia care for companion animals, horses, and farm animals in a fast-paced academic teaching environment. You'll work closely with faculty clinicians while supporting the training of veterinary students, interns, and residents. The job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Provide direct patient care as a veterinary anesthesia technician under the direction of anesthesia faculty.
- Anesthetize, monitor, and recover companion, equine, and farm animal patients, including drug administration and equipment troubleshooting.
- Orient and instruct veterinary students, interns, residents, and house staff in anesthesia techniques.
- Manage anesthesia operations, including equipment maintenance, case scheduling and records, drug inventory (including controlled substances), and support for clinical research; maintain flexibility for on-call or weekend shifts.
Employees working in the hospital must receive the pre-exposure rabies prophylaxis vaccination series prior to or immediately after hire, which will be paid for by the department.
Required Qualifications
- Associates degree in Veterinary Technology and at least 1 year of experience or equivalent combination
- NYS licensure or eligible to be licensed
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a variety of stakeholders
- Collaborate with the team while managing multiple cases and responsibilities with high attention to detail
- Ability and willingness to receive, implement, and offer constructive criticism
- Must have the ability to meet the physical demands of the position, which include, but are not limited to, stressful situations, prolonged standing and kneeling, lifting and restraining animals that often exceed 50 pounds.
- Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with multiple types of monitoring equipment to include blood pressure, pulse oximeter, ventilators, etc, as well as experience with arterial catheter placement.
- Experience with anesthesia for patients undergoing radiation therapy treatments.
Important Details about the Position
- This is an onsite position located in Ithaca, NY.
- We are unable to provide Visa sponsorship, now or in the future, for this position.
- Relocation assistance will not be provided for this position.
While the regular business hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, the specific schedule may change to meet the needs of the business, requiring employees to work early mornings, evenings, weekends and University holidays and scheduled breaks.
